Roberto Carlos's knee injury repeat

Roberto Carlos retired injured during the first half of last night's clash with Roma and is doubtful for Saturday's league game at Villarreal.

The 28-year-old Brazilian left-back appeared to damage his troublesome right knee towards the end of the opening 45 minutes and later had to be replaced by Santiago Solari.

On inspecting the injured knee, medical chief Alfonso del Corral told reporters: "It doesn't look too serious but we'll be doing some tests on Thursday morning.

"Roberto suffered sharp pains in his right knee. After a brief exploration, we didn't find anything to cause concern other than an aggravation of the tendonitis that he has suffered from time to time."

Should Roberto Carlos be declared unfit for Saturday's game, then his place in the side would go to B-team deputy, Raúl Bravo.
