Roberto Carlos Rejects Madrid's Latest Contract Offer

Roberto Carlos' future with Real Madrid is in serious jeopardy after the Brazilian international full-back rejected Real Madrid's latest contract offer.

Madrid has reportedly offered him a contract extension for an additional two seasons, but he is said to be asking for a four-year contract extension.

"They'll say 'We'll see how he plays the next two years and then we have the option of giving him two more years at the club,'" he said.

"I'm 31 and my career path will not allow me to accept this kind of thing," he added.

Roberto Carlos, arguably the best left-back in the world, is in Rio de Janeiro preparing for Brazil's South American 2006 World Cup qualifier against Argentina in Belo Horizonte on Wednesday.

He has stated that he wants to remain with Madrid but if both parties fail to agree on a deal within the next few weeks, look for him to seriously begin considering a move to Chelsea.

Roberto Carlos has been negotiating for several weeks with Madrid club officials about an extension of his existing contract which runs till June 30 next year.
