Roberto Carlos loses appeal against two-game ban

Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos has lost his appeal against a two-match ban from UEFA and will miss Wednesday's Champions League game against Bayern Munich, the Spanish club said on Monday.

The Brazil full-back was handed the suspension last week for "improper conduct" after retaliating to a foul by Bayern Munich defender Martin Demichelis in the 1-1 draw in Munich in the tie's first leg.

Roberto Carlos gave evidence at a hearing in Nyon on Monday but Real Madrid said on their website that his attempt to have the ban reduced or wiped out had not been successful.

He will miss the second leg of the first knockout round tie at the Bernabeu on Wednesday as well as the first leg of the quarter-final should Real make it through.

That leaves Real without both their Brazilian internationals for the match against Bayern after Ronaldo suffered a thigh injury in a league game at the weekend.

Spanish international striker Raul is also in danger of missing out as he looks to recover from an ankle injury.

Referee Terje Hauge missed the incident and said he had been unable to see the Brazilian's reaction to the foul because his view had been impeded by two players.

The Real Madrid defender went on to score his side's equaliser seven minutes from time when his long-range free kick squirmed under the body of goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, cancelling out a 75th minute goal from Bayern striker Roy Makaay.

Last year Carlos was given a three-match ban by world soccer's governing body FIFA for pushing Israeli referee Alon Yefet during Brazil's 2-1 defeat to Portugal after being sent off for protesting about the award of a free kick.
