Roberto Carlos commits to new Real Madrid contract

Brazilian superstar Roberto Carlos has agreed a new contract with Real Madrid.

The wing-back has extended his current deal through to 2008 with the option of a further 12 months. The agreement was struck this week and Roberto Carlos will put pen to paper over the next few days.

The 33 year-old's form this season convinced coach Fabio Capello that he still had a lot to offer and negotiations were brought forward on the defender's request following Real's victory over Barcelona a fortnight ago.
