Roberto Carlos aims for retirement deal

Real Madrid defender Roberto Carlos has revealed that he wants to retire from the game at the Bernabeu, or go back to his native Brazil.

The 28-year-old Brazil-born defender reckons that he could soon pen a new deal with Real but if that fails to materialize, then he'll go back to his home country to finish his playing days.

The player said on Tuesday: "It's not up to me to ask for a new deal, the club should start the ball rolling by asking me."

"Nothing's changed since I arrived here, if they offer to renew my contract then that's a sign that they value me as a player."

"My contract expires in 2005 and if I renew that then I'll almost certainly retire at Real Madrid which is what I want."

"If not then I'll be off to Brazil, I'm playing in the best team in the world - there's no point in going anywhere else."
