FIFA have accepted a petition from Barcelona to allow Rivaldo to stay and play with the Catalans in the clash with archrivals Real Madrid. FIFA cleared all players selected for upcoming South America World Cup qualifiers to stay with their clubs in Europe.
"It would be unfair to deprive the clubs from some of their best players as the calendar clashes with national competitions this weekend," FIFA said in a press release.
The release also stated: "Clubs had no possible ways to avoid the problem. This is why FIFA allowed this unprecedented exception for upcoming games on November 3 and 4."
The decision also means that Manchester United will enjoy the services of Argentine midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron as they face Liverpool at Anfield.
FIFA has in its charter an article that states that clubs must release players to participate in at least eight international friendlies per calendar year.
