Real steamroller Lokomotiv

After a stuttering start, Real finished up resounding 4-0 winners over Russian outfit Lokomotiv Moscow in the Bernabeu Stadium yesterday evening.

Two late goals, including an excellent strike from Roberto Carlos, sealed a handsome victory that takes them to the top of Champions League Group A.

Despite dominating the possession in the first half, Real found it difficult to create clear-cut chances, while Lokomotiv occasionally looked threatening themselves - notably on 22 minutes when Iker Casillas saved well from James Obiorah.

Nigmatulin was having a fine game in goal but could do nothing about Pedro Munitis's opener on 39 minutes, the little man from Santander putting it in the top corner after being fed by Raul.

After the restart there were moments of uncertainty for Real, and their nerves were only settled when Yuri Drozdov brought down Munitis, Luis Figo converting the spot-kick.

That more or less finished off the Muscovite challenge, and Real had a string of chances before a fine individual effort from Roberto Carlos and Savio Bortolini's tap-in, after great work by Figo, completed the rout.
