Real's Helguera blow

Real Madrid’s Ivan Helguera could go under the knife on Friday to mend the fracture to his right foot, and could be out for up to two months.

The injury was sustained during Tuesday's Trofeo Bernabeu clash against Inter Milan.

Defensive midfielder Helguera injured his right foot after falling awkwardly in 85th minute of the game and was immediately taken off and transported to La Fraternidad clinic in the Spanish capital.

Real doctor, Juan Carlos Hernandez stated that the player will undergo further tests on Thursday but he is sure that Helguera has fractured the bone in his foot and will require surgery.

Hernandez told Spanish agency Europa Press on Thursday: "It's a hairline fracture that can normally be remedied by encasing the foot in plaster. But there is also a risk that the break will reappear and that's why it's better to mend the bone by stitching the crack together with a small screw." Hernandez added that surgery was probably the most effective solution meaning that Helguera will face between six and eight weeks out of the game.
