Real rule out defensive approach for Cup decider

Attack will be the main form of defence for Real Madrid when they take a 2-0 lead into the second leg of their King's Cup semi-final away to Sevilla on Wednesday.

Real suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat the last time they played away to Sevilla in a league match back in November but coach Carlos Queiroz has ruled out a defensive approach against the slick-passing Andalucians.

"We know that we must go on the attack to defend our lead," Queiroz said on the eve of the game.

"We're not going to wait for them to come forward and score goals. We need to take to the game with the idea of winning it and that will be our attitude from the start."

Real have no injury worries for the return leg, when Queiroz should be able to field his strongest side. Only first choice goalkeeper Iker Casillas will drop out of the starting lineup, with number two Cesar wearing the gloves in the Cup this season.

Sevilla had plenty of chances against Real in the first leg but they were uncharacteristically tentative in front of goal and ended up losing to strikes from Santiago Solari and Raul.

They rediscovered their attacking form in the league at the weekend, when goals from Julio Baptista, Francisco Gallardo and Marti earned them a morale boosting 3-0 win at home to Sevilla, and coach Joaquin Caparros is now far more positive about his side's chances.

"We came into the league game on a run of defeats," Caparros said. "We'd been playing well but not getting the results but now we're all convinced we can knock Real Madrid out."

"Our aim will be to score the two goals we need and then we'll be starting from scratch."

The other semi-final is evenly poised going into the second leg on Thursday, after Zaragoza scored an injury-time goal to grab a 1-1 draw away to second division Alaves in the first game.
