Real resume Vieira talks

Real Madrid are to hold talks with Marc Roger, the agent of Arsenal star Patrick Vieira, to weigh up a move for the French midfielder.

The Spanish champions are eager to clarify the player's situation with The Gunners and are still entertaining the idea of attempting to lure the midfielder to the Bernabeu when the Spanish transfer window opens in December.

It has been suggested that Vieira's continuation at Highbury depends on how Arsenal fare in the Premiership and Champions League.

It was back in 1998 that Vieira won his last domestic honours with the Londoners and the world-class France international will not be wanting to wait too long to add to the championship and FA Cup winners' medals he won that season. Consequently he could be tempted to join up with his compatriot Zinedine Zidane in the Spanish capital especially if Arsenal struggle in the early stages of the Champions League, even though he would be ineligible to play for Real in European competition.

Vieira is currently worth £30million but that evaluation could drop to £20million at the end of the season as he approaches his contract expiry date.
