Real ordered to pay extra 10 million euros for Ronaldo

Real Madrid have been ordered to pay an extra 10 million euros ($11.45 million) to Inter Milan for Ronaldo, world soccer's governing body FIFA said on Wednesday.

FIFA's Players' Status Committee decided that Real should pay the additional fee for the Brazil striker, who moved to Spain in a 45 million euros deal in August 2002, because Santiago Solari refused to join Inter.

The original transfer agreement had included Argentine Solari as part of the deal, prompting Inter to make a formal complaint to FIFA claiming they were entitled to additional money for Ronaldo.

"At the FIFA Players' Status Committee meeting on 30 October, a decision was taken on the case regarding the transfer of Ronaldo from Inter Milan to Real Madrid," a FIFA spokesman said.

"It was decided that Real Madrid has no legitimate reason for not complying with its contractual obligations to Inter Milan."

FIFA said that the first instalment of the 10 million euro sum should be paid within 30 days, but added that Real have the right to lodge an appeal to FIFA's executive committee within 20 days.

Inter had been forced to sell Ronaldo after the Brazilian had a bust-up with then coach Hector Cuper. The Argentine was sacked by Inter last month.
