Real Madrid Youngster Sergio Canales Sidelined For A Month With Ankle Injury

Real Madrid youngster Sergio Canales faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a sprained ankle during training yesterday.

The former Racing starlet was in contention to be included in the squad for the home match against Valencia, but had to retire from training yesterday with some discomfort, and as result was omitted from the 20-man squad.

Medical tests have today confirmed that the injury is indeed an ankle sprain, and he is unlikely to return to first team action until the New Year.

Canales has struggled to make an impact for los Blancos this season given the consistent form of Mesut Oezil, and he has been restricted to cup and substitute appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side when he's been healthy.

He initially intended to return to Racing on loan this season, but upon his arrival at the club Mourinho instructed that he be retained at the Santiago Bernabeu.
