Real Madrid winger undergoes initial examinations after injury, sensations not positive

Real Madrid were made to toil against Celta Vigo on Friday night at Municipal de Balaidos. They eventually marched home victors, but not without paying a price.

One of the most critical moments on the night came early on in the first half when Vinicius Jr tried to get onto the end of a lobbed pass.

The 23-year-old superstar suddenly jerked to a stop and went down holding his hamstring, sending fans across the globe into instant worry.

Even though he tried to soldier on, Vinicius eventually asked to be taken off the field with Joselu replacing him for the rest of the game.

Prima facie, his setback appeared to be nothing major.

According to reports from Sergio Quirante, the sensations around the Brazilian’s injury are not as positive after conducting the preliminary examination.

This comes as a big blow to Carlo Ancelotti’s plans at an early stage in the season, given how important a part of the team Vinicius is.

Speaking to the press after his team’s late 1-0 win over Celta Vigo, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed Vinicius’ injury but dismissed it as a relatively minor affair. He stated that the Brazilian, in fact, wished to play on and would be back soon.

"Vini Jr. wanted to continue and I don’t think it was too serious. He tried and it was niggling him a little bit, so we made the decision to replace him. I don’t think he’ll play against Getafe and the break will help him to recover for when we play again," the Italian tactician said.

With the post-examination prognosis looking relatively unfavourable, it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

Vinicius will play no part in next weekend’s game, and one hopes the coming international break gives him enough time to recuperate for the gruelling games against Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid.
