Real Madrid want Woodgate to take wage cut

Jonathan Woodgate is having to take a pay-cut as he battles to prove his fitness at Real Madrid.
 
The Mirror says Real Madrid officials are meeting Woodgate's representatives SFX to discuss a reduction in his £40,000-per-week wages.

The England defender has been unable to play since joining Madrid from Newcastle last summer for £13.4m because of a long-term thigh injury.

Woodgate is not able to comment because Madrid have banned him from speaking publicly until he is fit make a full return.

The defender, who has been left in Spain while the club tour America and Asia, and is due to face further medical examinations to see if he is ready for a return to full training before the season starts.
