Real Madrid to unveil several new signings

Real Madrid are about to announce several new signings, the president of the Spanish giants told local media here Friday.

"I can say that over the next few days we will announce two or three signings," he told Spanish sports daily AS in Ibiza where he is on holiday.

Calderon said he was confident that Real would sign Chelsea's Dutch winger Arjen Robben before the new Spanish season begins at the end of August.

"Robben wants to come to Madrid and everything indicates that he will see his dream come true," he told the newspaper.

"He is a great footballer and when he gets here the sceptics will see the issue with less dark clouds on the horizon," he added.

Real's moves for Robben have reportedly stalled over the English side's asking price of 35 million euros (48 million US dollars).

Calderon has also put Brazilian attacking midfielder Kaka, who played a key role in Milan's Champions League triumph last season, on the top of his wish list.

But the Italian side are reluctant to let the 25-year-old go despite Real's reported willingness to pay 90 million euros for the player.

Calderon however said Kaka could join Real if he demanded to leave AC Milan.

"These situations resolve themselves when the player takes a step and asks to be let go," he said in an interview with sports daily Marca.

Kaka, who is under contract with AC Milan until June 2011, has said he is happy to stay at the Italian side.

"Real Madrid are a fantastic club, but money isn't everything," he told Italian news agency ANSA last week.

Real's new coach Bernd Schuster meanwhile has named Dutch international midfielder Rafael van der Vaart of German side Hamburg as a target.

"Van der Vaart is a very interesting player. This is why he is on my list. We know how much he is worth and if we decide to buy him we will succeed," he was quoted as saying in As.

Real Madrid are also reportedly chasing Marseille's French international Samir Nasri, Feyenoord defender Royston Drenthe and FC Porto winger Ricardo Quaresma.

"Reinforcements will come soon. We have already brought in four good players, and there will be more but we aren't in a rush," he told Marca.

"When we finish building our squad we will have an important team. It will be a strong, united and with ambition," he added.

The club have already signed goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek, defenders Pepe and Christoph Metzelder and striker Javier Saviola during the pre-season.

The reigning Spanish champions were beaten 3-0 by Bundesliga outfit Hanover in a friendly on Tuesday in Germany.
