Real Madrid to trump Chelsea for Samuel

Chelsea's signing of AS Roma defender Walter Samuel is not a done deal.

The London giants have offered around £15 million for the Argentina international.

But Real Madrid have made a late move for the stopper and held talks with Roma last week.

Real are willing to include striker Fernando Morientes as part of a deal to bring Samuel to Spain.

Also in Real's favour is Samuel's friendship with the club's sports director, Jorge Valdano.
