Real Madrid to trigger £30m release clause in David De Gea’s Man Utd contract

Real Madrid will make a fresh move to land Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea next summer, according to The Sun.

The Spanish giants will trigger a £30m buy-out clause in the next contract the Spain international signed when his deadline day move to the Bernabeu collapsed in December, the report claims.

De Gea, aged 25, had been widely expected to join Madrid in the summer transfer window and found himself frozen out of Louis van Gaal’s first-team plans as the saga rumbled on into the season.

But his move fell through when paperwork deadlines to finalise the deal were missed.

He signed a new four-year contract at Old Trafford shortly afterwards. There were mutterings at the time that the new deal included a release clause and that De Gea, whose previous contract was due to expire next summer, had put pen to paper to ensure that United would receive a fee for him in exchange for not being ostracised by Van Gaal ahead of Euro 2016.

Today’s report asserts with some confidence that such a clause does exist and that it is set at £30m.
