Real Madrid to secure Ronaldo deal as Chelsea make contact

Ronaldo is set to sign a new contract extension with Real Madrid in the coming days.

The Brazilian international striker held talks with Real president Florentino Perez two weeks ago and both agreed to take up the 12-month option in his existing deal.

The new agreement will keep Ronaldo at Real until 2007, though he could sign a new contract to 2008.

The Brazilian has new agents, Starzone, which also handle Luis Figo affairs. Preliminary talks have already taken place between the two parties and a contract could be signed this week.

Meanwhile, Marca says Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has had a lawyer close to the club make contact with Ronaldo's new representatives to make them aware of the Russian's interest about next season.
