Real Madrid to make Osasuna's Garcia first summer capture

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has given the green light for the club to bid for Osasuna midfielder Pablo Garcia.
 
The Uruguay international has been lined up by Real general manager Arrigo Sacchi to fill the defensive breach in midfield left by Claude Makelele's departure to Chelsea two years ago.

Real expect to pay around £6 million for Garcia, who is currently away on international duty with Uruguay. An announcement is expected to be made by both clubs after the Copa del Rey final.

Garcia was asked about Real's interest yesterday while with the Uruguay squad, but said: "I know just about as much as you, I do not know anything.

"I have not spoken with anybody. I do not want to speak nor to think about anything. Now I am with my national team, we have two important games and I do not want to think about something else."

"When I return to Spain, if I must speak, I speak. There is no problem."

Garcia's agent is currently in Madrid and believed to be discussing personal terms with Real officials.
