Real Madrid suffer major blow as key player ruled out of Champions League final vs Borussia Dortmund

Carlo Ancelotti’s side could secure a record-extending 15th European Cup win if they beat Dortmund at Wembley on June 1.

Real Madrid beat Bayern Munich in their semi-final to reach yet another European final, while Dortmund saw off PSG in the last four.

Edin Terzic’s side are through to their first Champions League final since 2013, where they beaten by rivals Bayern – coincidentally at Wembley.

Real Madrid head into this season’s final as favourites, having already claimed the La Liga title.

But they’ve been dealt a blow days before the match, with Aurelien Tchouameni set to miss the final through injury.

The midfielder sustained a stress injury to his left foot during the semi-final second-leg win over Bayern Munich earlier this month.

Real Madrid had hoped he could recover in time to face Dortmund but have now confirmed the match has come too soon for the versatile France international.

"He is doing individual work but he is not ready for the final," Carlo Ancelotti said in his press conference ahead of the final game of the La Liga season against Real Betis on Saturday night.

"Let’s see if he’s ready for the Euros."

Tchouameni has been a regular player for Madrid this season, missing only a handful of games due to injury in November and December.

His versatility has proved vital for the Spanish champions, with Tchouameni at times playing at centre-back due to injuries to Eder Militao and David Alaba.

France boss Didier Deschamps will be desperate for Tchouameni to recover in time for the start of Euro 2024, which begins on June 14.

France face Austria in their opening group game on June 17 before further matches against the Netherlands (June 21) and Poland (June 25).
