Real Madrid step closer to Gago agreement

Real Madrid and Boca Juniors remain locked in talks over a fee for midfielder Fernando Gago.
 
One of Gago's agents, Mauricio Lombilla, is due in Madrid today to discuss the situation ahead of a definitive meeting that is expected to see terms finalised. Real president Ramon Calderon, sports chief Pedja Mijatovic, Lombilla and Boca president Mauricio Macri will meet in Madrid later this week to thrash out terms.

Sources close to negotiations have told AS a deal will be struck for around £14 million.

Meanwhile, Boca coach Ricardo La Volpe said yesterday: "Whether he has offers or not, Fernando is demonstrating extraordinary professionalism because he continues putting his foot in, he continues playing as always, he wants to wear the Boca shirt and wishes to be a three-time champion.

"Without any doubt it would be logical that he wants to take care of his legs, but he does not do this. He's taking risks and he continues to tackle."
