Real Madrid start asking after Man Utd star Rooney

Real Madrid have drawn up a detailed dossier on Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
 
The People says Rooney's astonishing exploits have catapulted him into the galactico bracket and Real want to be in pole position should a bidding war start.

They know that Sir Alex Ferguson would rather resign than sell Rooney but they have instructed agents to find out everything they can about the player's contractual situation at Old Trafford.

Real have already contacted Everton about details over their sell-on clause, which is said to guarantee 25 per cent of any transfer fee demanded by United should they sell.

Real, Chelsea and Barcelona all now privately admit that it was a mistake not to compete seriously with United for Rooney's signature last year.

And that is why all three - led by Real - are monitoring his position closely.

While Ferguson is at the helm, they know that there is little chance of prising Rooney away. But Real will move in should there be a change of management at Old Trafford.
