Real Madrid star James Rodriguez says Zinedine Zidane is his 'idol' and insists he has no desire to leave 'dream' club

James Rodriguez played down speculation that he could be unhappy at Real Madrid by insisting the club is his dream, and manager Zinedine Zidane is his idol.

Rodriguez had become a peripheral figure under Zidane, but scored the opening goal against Espanyol on Sunday after making his first start of the season.

And after the 2-0 win the Colombian, who was linked with a move to Chelsea this summer, made clear that he sees his long-term future in Madrid.

"Zidane is my idol," he said. "Real Madrid is my dream. I hope it lasts much more time."

"My family and I are very happy in Madrid and in the team. I will fight to stay here forever."

Rumours of unrest at the Bernabeu dogged Rodriguez all summer, but the 25-year-old, who has been at the club since 2014, played down those reports.

"It's not true that I've had a bad time. Me not speaking [to the public] doesn't mean I have a bad relationship with anyone."

"We are united as a team and everyone has supported me here since the first day. We want more wins and more records."

"I understand the coach's decisions. He knows I always want to help the team, not just with goals and assists."
