Real Madrid shaken by Chelsea's Roberto Carlos push

Real Madrid's board are wavering under pressure from Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

The Russian billionaire's prime target is Brazilian wing-back Roberto Carlos, whose contract has a buy-out clause of £60 million and less than 18 months to run.

Chelsea have offered the ex-Inter Milan fullback a package worth £80,000-a-week, which is almost double what he is currently on at Real.

The offer also far exceeds Real's wage cap and Roberto Carlos has already showed the offer to his club's board.

Real are in a quandary over what to do next, as Chelsea' spending power is causing chaos amongst player ranks.

Real do not have the power to double Roberto Carlos' wages, without doing the same for their other galacticos and in the process ripping apart their carefully managed salary structure.
