Real Madrid set to sign Gago

Boca Juniors' highly-fancied midfielder Fernando Gago is on the verge of signing with Spanish giants Real Madrid, according to a report.

Spanish sports daily AS said Wednesday the player, who could play his final match for the Argentine giants on Wednesday against Estudiantes, will be unveiled at the Santiago Bernabeu on Monday if he successfully comes through a medical.

Gago is expected to sign a five-year deal worth 15 million euros and be paid in the region of 1.5 million euros per year.

AS also reported that Real had moved a step closer to signing River Plate forward Gonzalo Higuain, who holds both French and Argentine passports and recently turned down a call-up to the France squad.

Real reportedly upped their initial offer to 10 million euros, however it is believed that River Plate coach Daniel Passarella wants to hold on to Higuain for the Copa Libertadores which begins in January.
