Real Madrid have given Roy Keane until next week to decide if he will accept a short-term deal with the Spanish giants.

Keane would prefer an 18-month contract next. But the temptation to join Spanish giants Real and link-up with old United team-mate David Beckham is huge.

Beckham this week urged Real to swoop for the midfield star and Keane's ferocious win-at-all-costs attitude is exactly the motivating force president Florentino Perez believes his club need.

Keane is currently the most sought-after footballer in Europe with Fiorentina, Juventus, Bolton and West Ham also admirers.

A Real insider told The Sun: "Yes, we are serious about Roy Keane because he could play a valuable role for us this season."

"He is one of the best options available during this transfer window, a very technical player, a winner and his presence would lift the players around him."

"There are many clubs interested in him but few players are presented with an opportunity to play for Real Madrid in their careers. We will have to wait and see what he decides to do."
