Real Madrid set for financial boost from the sale of former winger

Real Madrid have found themselves in a spot of bother late in the transfer window, following the untimely injuries to Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao.

The club have roped in Kepa Arrizabalaga to replace Courtois, but are said to be not looking for a replacement for Militao.

In the meantime, though, the club are set to receive a small financial boost, which may aid them in their endeavours in the market.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid are expected to receive a small financial boost from the sale of Jorge de Frutos.

The right winger has recently joined Rayo Vallecano in a deal worth €8 million, half of which could go to Real Madrid.

This is because Los Blancos had reserved 50% of the player’s rights when they sold De Frutos to Levante for €2 million in 2020.

De Frutos came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid and went on to play close to 40 matches for the Castilla outfit. But he failed to make a single competitive appearance for Los Blancos senior team.

Some other reports suggest that De Frutos’ transfer to Rayo Vallecano could be worth €4.5 million, in which case Real Madrid would stand to receive just a little over €2 million.

Although the €4 million financial boost is unlikely to impact Real Madrid’s transfer plans for the coming weeks, it is a strategy the club have used heavily in recent years.

The Spanish giants have retained 50% rights of young players leaving the club or the academy, in search of regular minutes elsewhere.

The club have done so for players such as Sergio Arribas, Carlos Dotor, and Antonio Blanco in recent times. This strategy allows them to either earn profit on the future sale of these individuals or sign them back on a cut-price deal.

Real Madrid were able to do the latter when they brought back Fran Garcia for a fee of just €5 million earlier in the year.
