Real Madrid 'set aside €300m to sign Neymar from PSG' this summer but need Cristiano Ronaldo to leave first

Real Madrid are ready to make Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar the most expensive player in the world twice over with a stunning summer move as they look to start a new attacking dynasty.

Club president Florentino Perez has tried to bring the Brazilian superstar to the Bernabeu on several occasions but will now look to make a definitive move that will eclipse the £198million PSG paid to sign him from Barcelona.

According to Marca, Real Madrid are setting aside as much as €300m (£262m) for their summer expenditure and plan to use the bulk of it to tempt the Ligue 1 side into a sale.

Cristiano Ronaldo remains the biggest obstacle to the deal. He will have to bring an end to his Real Madrid career to make room for Neymar and it is unclear whether any club is willing to pay what it takes to sign him.

Indeed, as the same report mentions, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has already told Real Madrid he wants his wages doubled to match the £500,000-a-week deal that Barcelona handed Lionel Messi.

Keen to nudge him out of the club, Real Madrid have so far refused to entertain the idea of handing Ronaldo a new contract. The hope is he will finally make good on his constant threats to leave this summer.

Another element that has been thrown into the mix is the clause Neymar has in his PSG contract. A €222m (£194m) release clause will be activated at the end of the 2018-19 season, which would give Real Madrid the chance to sign him for much less than it would take this summer.

It would also give PSG a good excuse to tell Neymar to stay put at Parc des Princes for another season. The club chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi's has already publicly stated that it will be 'impossible' for Real Madrid to sign him this summer.

Of course, Neymar could always agitate for a move but that would require severing his ties with a second major European club, following his acrimonious departure from the Nou Camp last summer.
