Real Madrid's Zidane shrugs off French critics

Real Madrid ace Zinedine Zidane has shrugged off French criticism over his decision to retire from international football.

"I'll now have more time to focus on my club career," he told AS. "That's the idea. I will have time to rest and to do things that I have not been able to do before."

"It is normal that there are people who ask I return, but its important to leave room for the players who come up behind you. Now I know that clearly."

"When you're 32 years old, you have left just a short time in a career."

"I have retired from the national team for that reason, because its most important to finish my career in a shining way. I am only focused on Madrid."

Asked if he saw France's last match, Zidane replied: "No, I saw Madonna in concert."
