Real Madrid have been boosted by the return to training of captain Sergio Ramos after he missed Spain’s international fixtures with a shoulder injury.
The 29-year-old was strongly linked with an exit from Los Blancos in the summer but the La Liga giants convinced the centre-back to stay with a new £123,000-a-week contract (via Express) while Rafa Benitez handed him the captain’s armband following Iker Casillas’ departure.
Manchester United were thought to be extremely interested in the Spaniard but the deal did not happen and was brushed under the carpet not long after as it emerged that the Red Devils had no chance of signing him.
Ramos has been key to Madrid over the past decade and has been a constant presence in their defence since his arrival from Sevilla.
Ramos has made just four appearances in La Liga this term due to injury but he has only seen one goal go past Keylor Navas in those matches so his impact in the side is undisputed.
