Real Madrid's Samuel seeks Spanish passport

Walter Samuel has put paid to any doubts over his determination to stay with Real Madrid by pursuing his Spanish passport.

The Argentina international's move from Lazio has been shrouded in controversy with rumours suggesting he has failed to settle in Madrid and was seeking a quick return to Italy.

But he has now begun the process of gaining his Spanish papers, which is greatly appreciated by Real management as it will free up another non-EU spot in the senior squad.

Brazilian pair Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos are also seeking European passports. The decisions by the South American trio is expected to see Santos ace Robinho arrive next summer.
