Real Madrid's Ruben breaks silence on teary Seville clash

Real Madrid defender Ruben has broken his silence over his controversial substitution last week against Seville.

The youngster was hooked by trainer Carlos Queiroz before halftime as Real slumped to a 4-1 defeat.

Ruben was pictured breaking down in tears on the bench and Queiroz's decision was questioned - and attacked - after the match.

"It's been a difficult week," Ruben told AS yesterday. "But I feel good in training and hope things improve."

"At the time, Queiroz wanted to change things for the better of the team. He is not guilty of anything. He criticised himself and protected me, I want to defend him."

"I don't regret the tears I shed, I don't regret anything I do. What was upsetting is that people used my image to attack the coach."

"I am confident I will overcome this. Last week will be an anecdote to tell my grandsons."

Asked if he genuinely believed he had a long-term future at Real Madrid, Ruben replied: "I have been treated very well by Madrid. I want to play my entire career here."

"I will not consider leaving. I am a Madridista, both as a professional and a fan, and I don't see myself playing for another team."
