Real Madrid's Queiroz: Barcelona was a tragic result

Real Madrid suffered humiliation at home to bitter rivals Barcelona last night, losing 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Luis Figo was also sent off in the fiery clash, which saw Barca come from behind to earn coach Frank Rijkaard his greatest victory since taking over in the summer.

Santiago Solari had Real 1-0 ahead ten minutes after halftime, only for Patrick Kluivert to net the equaliser four minutes later.

Xavi grabbed the winner on 86 minutes after Figo was dismissed for his second yellow card.

Afterwards, Real coach Carlos Queiroz blamed the sending off of Figo for his team's defeat: "It was very difficult to get back in the game after Figo was dismissed."

"It was a tragic result. My team played a great game and deserved more. But I congratulate Barca for their spirit and work ethic."

"It isn't necessary to punish my players. They have played very well. The only thing was that we could only score once from many, many chances created, while Barca scored twice from much less."

"Until the season is over, we must continue to fight with everything we have. The title is not out of our hands."
