Real Madrid's Owen slams Liverpool over Murphy

Real Madrid striker Michael Owen has blasted former club Liverpool for their treatment of Danny Murphy.

New boss Rafa Benitez's arrival at Anfield signalled the end of Owen's time on Merseyside and also led to the sale of Murphy to Charlton.

Whilst Owen agrees that the time was right for him to leave Liverpool, he is more scathing of the club's treatment of his former team-mate.

"Danny got told the week before I left that they didn't want him and he could speak to other clubs," said Owen.

"Nasty things like that happen in football."

"Sometimes you don't want to leave a club but you don't get a choice."
