Real Madrid's Owen prefers Man Utd over Liverpool

Real Madrid striker Michael Owen is desperate to join either Manchester United or Liverpool before the start of the season.
 
The News of the World says Owen prefers United, though his advisors have suggested a loan return to Anfield.

What is certain is that Owen has no future at Real Madrid after the Spanish giants yesterday confirmed the £35million arrival of Brazilian duo Julio Baptista AND Robinho.

A close pal said: "Michael is not prepared to spend a season sitting on the bench in Spain, especially as this is a World Cup year."

"He would love to join Manchester United but at the moment there's been no signal out of Old Trafford that they're interested."

The only English club currently willing to jump for Owen is Newcastle but the 25-year-old is unlikely to consider a team that failed to make the Champions' League.
