Real Madrid’s new signing to pen six-year deal until 2031

Real Madrid are edging closer to securing yet another major reinforcement for the upcoming season, with Alvaro Carreras now expected to join the club from Benfica in a deal that could be completed within days.

According to a recent report by ESPN, the Spanish full-back is poised to sign a six-year contract until 2031, with the move heavily backed by incoming manager Xabi Alonso.

Carreras, 22, is no stranger to the club. A former product of the Real Madrid youth academy, he featured alongside players like Raúl Asencio before making the switch abroad.

His return now appears imminent, as Real Madrid seek to resolve a long-standing issue in the left-back position.

There is a growing belief inside the Madrid camp that Carreras fits perfectly into Alonso’s tactical vision. Known for his energy, overlapping runs, and balanced defensive qualities, the Spaniard is exactly the type of player Alonso wants for the flanks.

With Alonso expected to be officially announced soon, Madrid are hoping to finalise Carreras’ transfer in time for the Club World Cup, ensuring the manager has his core squad in place from the start.

Sources close to the club state that Alonso is already deeply involved in transfer planning and that Carreras is among his top defensive priorities, much like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen, who are also linked with moves to the Bernabeu.

While optimism is high, there is still work to be done on the financial front. Carreras has a €50 million release clause at Benfica, a figure Real Madrid are not currently prepared to meet.

Negotiations are now focused on lowering the final transfer fee, with both clubs said to be in regular contact.

Given Madrid’s strong bargaining power and Carreras’ apparent willingness to return to Spain, a compromise is expected soon. Benfica, who have been open to selling the player under the right conditions, may eventually settle for a figure well below the clause.
