Real Madrid's Makelele still on Chelsea shopping list

Real Madrid midfielder Claude Makelele remains a priority target for Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.

Despite the imminent arrivals of Joe Cole and Juan Veron, Abramovich is keen to bring a ball-winning midfielder to Stamford Bridge and has penciled in Makelele as his No1 choice.

Abramovich would have no problem matching Real's £14 million asking price and speculation has already suggested a double-your-money offer for Makelele has been tabled to the Frenchman's agents.
