Real Madrid's Luxemburgo: I can't accept defeat

Real Madrid coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo admits he is struggling to accept last night's defeat at Juventus.

Real were just 15 minutes from advancing to the Champions League quarterfinals before David Trezeguet's spectacular effort. Then in extra-time, Marcelo Zalayeta gave the tie to Juve 2-1 with a goal on 116 minutes.

"It's hard to accept a defeat like this. I've already spoken to my players and they are all extremely sad. Juve are very strong but we could have scored and qualified tonight," said Luxemburgo.

"Now, however, we can only accept the result of the match, think about what we did wrong and focus on the domestic league. I was forced to take off [Zinedine] Zidane because he wasn't fully fit before the game."

"Because the match was so intense and tiring, it really took it out of him."

Real midfielder David Beckham also said: "I don't know what made the difference today. We came here to win. But we knew it'd be difficult because Juve are very strong, especially at home. We are very, very disappointed."
