Real Madrid’s Esteban Granero & Sergio Canales pleased to have played charity match against Seleccion de Murcia

Real Madrid duo Esteban Granero and Sergio Canales have expressed their happiness at having helped the earthquake-struck population of Lorca by playing football at the Nueva Condomina.

The Spanish giants and Seleccion de Murcia played out an entertaining 2-2 draw on Wednesday evening in a game that was arranged to raise support for the victims of the earthquake-hit town of Lorca.

It proved to be a lively affair and was played out in front of 32,000 spectators, leaving both Granero and Canales pleased with their effort.

"We had a great time," Granero is quoted as saying by Madrid’s official website. "It was a match to enjoy playing and [former Madrid defender] Chendo deserved to get in on the action. He played hard. I am sure he enjoyed the minutes he got."

"This for us was like another training session, although we always try to compete and do our best, especially in matches of this nature."

Canales echoed his team-mate's words and said: "It was important to be here and to help Lorca in any way we could. They deserve it. We hope everyone was able to forget about what happened for at least a day. We hope they recover from this tragedy."

"There are more important things in life than Barca-Madrid matches," the youngster continued, referring to the two teams clashes in recent weeks. "That is what makes this club great. It helps people when they need it most. All that matters is that we were here to help."
