Real Madrid refuse to miss out on David De Gea, but they wont pay Man United’s €40m fee

For the millionth time this summer, Spanish daily Marca have Man United keeper David De Gea on the front of their paper on Tuesday.

The headline on the splash reads “tambien viene De Gea” – De Gea will arrive too.

The story has very little substance in it to convince readers that there has been any significant movement in the De Gea transfer of late.

Instead, we learn that Real Madrid are still committed to signing the stopper before the transfer window ends, however Los Blancos are still baulking at the €40m asking price which Man United have set.

Without outlining how the two clubs will reach a compromise, Marca seem to sell their readers a fairytale, reporting that De Gea remains “convinced that his story will finally have a happy ending.”

Looking forward, Marca say that Real Madrid will not pay even €35m to secure the services of De Gea, who becomes a free agent next summer, whilst the Iberian paper simultaneously report that Los Blancos “aim to honour the deal they brokered with the player months ago. De Gea has done his part.”

Finally, it’s reported that De Gea is willing to turn down €3m a season to stay at Man United, as the Red Devils have reportedly offered the keeper a yearly salary of €8.5m, while Real are only offering €5.5m in a 6-year deal.
