Real Madrid ready to launch all-out pursuit for 26-year-old superstar if Man City face sporting sanctions

Real Madrid have built their sporting success on signing superstars and bringing them together to win silverware.
Los Blancos have had different eras where the Galacticos have been the driving force, and under Jose Mourinho, they are trying to recreate another such era.
Madrid could now be handed a major opportunity to sign Manchester City striker Erling Haaland if the English club’s sanctions are confirmed.
Journalist Graeme Bailey (h/t Madrid Pulse) has now revealed that Madrid could launch an aggressive pursuit if the Norwegian becomes available, potentially making him their priority transfer target.
An independent commission found City guilty of 114 of the 115 charges brought against them, but the club has appealed the verdict and continues to deny wrongdoing. No sporting punishment has yet been imposed.
Possible sanctions include points deductions and even relegation, although the eventual outcome remains uncertain.
Haaland’s situation is particularly interesting because he is contracted to City until 2034. There is also no automatic relegation clause in his contract.
That said, a serious sporting punishment could nevertheless create an opening that previously appeared almost impossible.
Madrid have long been linked with Haaland, and the possibility of signing one of Europe’s most prolific strikers would naturally attract attention at the Bernabeu.
However, this would be no ordinary transfer. Haaland’s wages, transfer valuation and long-term contract would make any operation enormously expensive.
There would also be significant sporting questions to address, particularly with Kylian Mbappe already occupying a central role in Madrid’s attack.
The most exciting possibility is not simply adding another superstar. It is how Mourinho could build a different attacking identity around a genuine penalty-box striker.
Haaland would give Madrid a constant target for crosses, a devastating runner behind defensive lines and someone capable of turning relatively few chances into goals.
That could be especially valuable against opponents who defend deep, where Madrid sometimes need a more direct presence inside the area.
However, the prospect also raises a fascinating question about Mbappe. Could Mourinho find a structure that allows both forwards to thrive without sacrificing the team’s defensive balance?
For now, such talk remains premature, and it remains to be seen what the future holds for Manchester City and how it impacts Haaland in the coming months.
