Real Madrid president: We didn't push Beckham to LA Galaxy

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon insists management didn't force David Beckham into his world record deal with LA Galaxy.

Beckham signed forms with the MLS outfit at the height of his row with coach Fabio Capello, but Calderon is adamant he tried to convince the England ace to stay with Real.

"We did not let him leave. We wanted him to continue," said Calderon. "Personally, I tried on several occasions to renew his contract, but his future is in the United States and we must accept it."

Meanwhile, Beckham says he learned from his time frozen out by Capello.

"It educated me," said the midfielder. "I learned how to get through the tough times in the best possible way. I believe it is important to act professionally during such moments because children look up to me."
