Real Madrid president wants to close Gago deal today

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon is anxious to wrap up negotiations with Boca Juniors today for midfielder Fernando Gago.
 
Calderon hopes to seal an agreement over a fee for the Argentine youngster in a telephone hook-up with Boca counterpart Mauricio Macri - though Real director Franco Baldini, a close friend of Macri, is less optimistic.

Gago's agent, Marcelo Lombilla, met with Calderon yesterday and continued talks over a fee for the midfielder. Along with representing Gago, Lombilla is also acting on behalf of Boca while Macri is in Buenos Aries.

It's emerged Gago is prepared to surrender the 15 per cent of his transfer fee to Boca to help smooth the move. Macri welcomed the proposal, which will see an extra £1.7 million added to Boca's percentage of Real's bid of £12 million for the player.

As negotiations closed last night, Macri was indicating he was ready to sign off on an agreement over Gago some time today.
