Real Madrid president steps up bids for Milito, Ajax's Chivu

Real Madrid are closing in on their top two defensive targets - Ajax skipper Christian Chivu and Independiente's Gaby Milito.

Both Chivu and Milito are also being chased by Premiership and Serie A clubs, but Real president Florentino Perez is said to have already held talks with the duo about moving to Spain next year.

The deal for Chivu is close to being finalised, while Real have moved in for Milito after talks with Leeds United broke down last week.

Milito has also been linked with Blackburn Rovers, but Real remain favourites to sign the highly-rated Argentine.
