Real Madrid president: People wanted to destroy Schuster

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon was quick to praise coach Bernd Schuster after last night's stunning 5-0 win at Villarreal.

"I am satisfied with what I have seen. This is a long project and it is necessary to let Schuster work. I believe that he's been treated unjustly and I am happy because he's shown that we were not mistaken and that (Miguel Angel)Portugal and (Predrag) Mijatovic also did well with the signings.

"Schuster is a big person, that has not changed and he's undergone a lot because I believe that he was treated very unjustly. I have read reports that I think show that somebody wanted to destroy him. The preseason is for bringing the team together, where there have been eight new players and those who were already here had to adapt to a different system. I have read things that surprised me a little. I know that Madrid attracts the opinions of many people and I accept this, for that reason I am happy for Schuster."
