Real Madrid president met with Ancelotti last month and finalised transfer plans for January

The January transfer window has opened, and players have begun switching allegiances during the only window available mid-season.

Real Madrid, as is normally the norm with them, are silent through the month.

Los Blancos have an unspoken policy of not making signing midway through the season unless all hell breaks loose. The situation this time came very close to forcing a new signing, but the manager opted to maintain faith in his existing core to get the job done.

According to reports from Josep Pedrerol of El Chiringuito TV, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and manager Carlo Ancelotti met on December 4th in a high-profile meeting where the duo discussed the team’s road ahead, the squad strength and assessed the need for a new signing.

In the end, the discussion boiled down to the consensus that Ancelotti had enough in the tank to coast through the season and that the club would make no new signing in January.

The biggest position under question was the central defence, but the manager trusts the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga to come good if the situation turned dire.

Real Madrid identified several young centre-backs with a high-ceiling during their recent scouting for a new centre-back. They may have decided against signing a new player in January, but reinforcing the defence remains a priority for the summer.

The likes of Goncalo Inacio, Antonio Silva, and Leny Yoro are amongst the top young guns linked with a move to Real Madrid and it remains to be seen which signing works out from both an economic and sporting perspective.

After all, the club are also eyeing a big forward signing and Alphonso Davies for the summer.
