Real Madrid president: I tried to talk Camacho round

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insists he tried to talk Jose Antonio Camacho out of resigning on Sunday.

"Obviously, I tried to talk him round," Perez said last night. "But we already know how it is with Camacho."

"He is a man with very strong convictions. He had reflected on what had happened and decided it was best to leave now. In addition, he himself has offered the solution to this situation."

"He was the one that spoke to Garcia Remón about taking over."

Perez added: "The players are not totally guilty for this. They are professional and know what is required of them. It's the same with Camacho, he came here with his ideas, but it has not worked out as we all hoped."
