Real Madrid president: I expect Hierro will be offered new deal

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has again said that he expects the club to offer Fernando Hierro a new deal.

The veteran sweeper is currently sidelined with injury and has demanded to know his future at Real by December.

The injury has sparked speculation that Real may refuse to offer the Spanish veteran a new contract, with his current one running out at the end of this season.

But Perez said yesterday: "The injury is not serious and we're sure he will return to play this season - which is reason why we did not value that possibility (about releasing him)."

"In any case, Hierro knows what he has been and what he is to Real Madrid, and although it is the sport authorities responsibility, I am convinced that he will continue here next season."
