Real Madrid president defends selling Eto'o to Barcelona

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has defended his decision to sell Samuel Eto'o to Barcelona in the summer.

Eto'o has been inspirational for Barca this season as Real's bitter rivals have raced away with the Spanish Liga title.

Perez said: "We could not find Eto'o a place in the team and he felt it was best to find another club."

"At that moment our priority was to strengthen the defence. In attack we already were overloaded with options. We did what we had to do."

"We already had Ronaldo, the best No9 in the world, we did not need anyone else."
