Real Madrid president cools Beckham speculation

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has attempted to dampen speculation over it's possible move for Manchester United star David Beckham.

Perez said yesterday, "It is not the time for such subjects to be discussed and shows a lack of respect to Manchester United - which is a great friend of Real Madrid."

"It has all been triggered from rumours. Anyone connected to Real Madrid knows that it is a fantasy that Beckham would play for us next season."

On the mixed comments of sports chief Jorge Valdano last week, Perez added, "Valdano was limited with his answer to a question if Beckham would fit in Real Madrid."

"The Englishman is one of the best players in the world and everybody would like to have the best players in the world."
